RE: NEW: HP 15C Collectors Edition
So, I'm slightly confused about one thing...

Is there no US distributor, or am I missing something?

Daily drivers: 15c, 32sII, 35s, 41cx, 48g, WP 34s/31s. Favorite: 16c.
Latest: 15ce, 48s, 50g. Gateway drug: 28s found in yard sale ~2009.

I don't think Moravia could offer it to US distributors (other than Royal) directly. They'd have to go through Royal as a middleman.

So why doesn't Royal pick up on it?

There will be US distribution of it. I am looking into offering it for sale through my commerce site, though I do not have pricing details yet. It looks like it would reach the US in late August or early September.

I'm a bit ignorant on the subject, but wouldn't that count as "grey market" sales? What would be the situation with warranties, etc.?

Usually sales through an "authorized distributor" inherit the full manufacturer's warranty as if sold through the manufacturer. Hopefully it will never be an issue. Eric has an amazing site.

What would make it "gray market"?

US distributor, US retailer, US customers.

Is Royal involved in the deal at all? I mean wouldn't Royal notionally be responsible for importing the calculators, expect their cut, and be ultimately responsible for repair or replacement under warranty in the US?

Presumably, but I don't know how the relationship works between the distributor and HP and its licensees. These distributors have been working with HP for many decades for getting calculators to the educational market so it's not like they'd be doing things against HP's wishes.

Is that so? I didn't read anything about a one-time limited production run, if they remain in production after the initial batch is sold out I see those prices dropping very fast.

We'll have to wait and see, but I can't see prices dropping at all...

The 15C CE is not yet available, so that might take some time. In the mean time I had exected that the DM15(L) would limit the prices of 2nd hand HP15C units.

The DM15L is four to five times faster than the original HP-15C. Compare that with the available (from special sellers on auction sites) HP-15C LE which is 100 times (on average) faster than the original HP-15C.

It just looks so bad that Royal is not willing to make any statement about it. It is like they don’t give a crap about the community.

Me too, and an 11c that is more suited to my daily work.

I like both of them, but both have a few cosmetic issues that my 35s, 32sII, 48g, 41cx do not.

ROTFL: Is this some variation on "Collector's Disease" that I would now like to have a daily driver in the Voyager Series that's in pretty much mint condition?

(My 16c and 12c don't count... even though my 16 is my favorite of all, it lacks basic statistical functions, and I'm a software engineer and not a finance guy.)

Sounds like good old fashioned practicality to me! Gotta have a few spares if it's an important part of your workflow, right?

And that's part of the fun!

It's getting better with age when you calculate samples/remaining years expected.
