Here you go:

https://literature.hpcalc.org/items/1429

It's also available on SourceForge where the binaries are availble for download.

EDIT: Both sites have the v3.1 docs but I'm assuming that's simply because Walter didn't update the docs when service releases where made available.

You are wrong, since I have my v3.3 docs since 2015. Only they weren't free.

Walter & Paul charged for a PDF? I was aware of printed docs that were available via Amazon but I wan't aware paid pdf docs.

I stand corrected.

What's so different with the 3.3 pdf docs that gave them any intrinsic value.

Yes, see here.

And for a list of the different versions of the WP34s manual: Manuals for the WP34S / WP31S

Fair enough. I havn't used my 30b since I first flashed it for WP34s duties way back when, so the request for a donation of $9 for the pdf passed me by.

The author, Walter, has never permitted the manual to be freely available.

We have absolutely remarkable documentation for WP34S and WP43 and we have nothing specifically for C43/C47 so far.

Make of it what you will: I would be absolutely willing to pay for good documentation, especially since the firmware is open sourced.

It's just I don't want to put stickers on the keys. This is why personally I wouldn't go for a WP43 as long as there are no plastic keys on sale which I could just drop into my DM42...

The 3.1 pdf version available at https://literature.hpcalc.org/ was supplied by Walter. And with https://literature.hpcalc.org/ being a publicly available extension of hpcalc.org surely that counts as freely available?

Eric lists the suppliers of scans and orginal pdf assets, much as he does for software assets, so it's easy to trace things back to the source.

BTW, your LogB routine for the 48, that ensures that base Log calculations are applied using the full internal 15 significant digits is one of my most used programs on the 48GX. I find with with the 28/48/49/50 line of calculators it's the little programs that have the most value. Smile

RE: [wp34s owner's manual v3.3 pdf] could it be free for download?
The note about the manual never being freely available was in reference to the manual in the subject of this thread -- version 3.3 of the 34S manual. Version 3.1 was free, version 3.3 was not. I seem to vaguely remember that someone else made a custom manual that was based on 3.1 but had a few updates to be accurate for use with 3.3 but I can't find it now.

Maybe (I never liked it) but we also have remarkable software thanks to many contributors.
And they all worked for free.

I find it more than shocking that one person would make money out of an open-source project for something like the documentation. This is not the spirit of such projects.

This is one of the many reasons why I'll never contribute to projects where Walter is involved anymore. What happened with the WP43s is proof that I'm not the only one.

Yes, that was me. Wink
I've uploaded this updated manual here: (link valid only a few days)

Edit: File updated, because there were a few strange characters on page 185 - fixed now!
Edit2: This updated WP-34S manual is now also on Eric's great website: https://literature.hpcalc.org/

RE: [wp34s owner's manual v3.3 pdf] could it be free for download?
Great - thanks! (My belief is that a derivation of a GPL document under GPL is absolutely fine. The original author can release old work or new work under a different license but they can't revoke a license they've previously granted to some revision of a work. And to relicense requires agreement of all contributors, which isn't clearly the case with W. I do understand the moderators not wanting to get into argument, though.)

I believe the GPL covers the software, not the owner's manual.

There is an equivalent of the GPL for documentation, namely the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL), but adoption of the GPL by the software does not imply adoption of the GFDL by the documentation.

RE: [wp34s owner's manual v3.3 pdf] could it be free for download?
One can include documentation in a software package, and the whole can be licensed under the GPL. And I believe that's the original situation here. At some later point, after 3.0, W sought to pull the documentation out of the GPL coverage. The present state may well be that the documentation is no longer GPL.

BTW I have no issue with people seeking reward for their work, whether as payment, sponsorship, or donations. Even dual licensing can be used this way.
