I assume we are talking about this program. Here the test is whether |f(x)|<1E–8. Which is less problematic than 1E–10 but still not a good idea at all.

Yes. My source is http://www.greendyk.nl/hp41c-applications/index.php (page 41), which looks identical except for that one constant. Maybe an earlier edition of the book?
