I don't consider your expository a rant but rather significantly aligned with my undergraduate studies in Physical Science & Civil Engineering. My only departure is with respect to Numbers versus Measures, but this is a nuance adopted from my professors. Since I seldom venture into PURE MATHEMATICS, I also have difficulty with numerical quantification of physical measurements and an absence of attendant units / error.
