The free version may not be available in all regions/places in the various app stores.

The apps that are enabled - Function, Adv Grapher, Stat1Var, Stat2Var, Inference, Solve, Parametric, Polar, and Sequence. In addition, user programming is turned off (no program catalog, but function defines will work) and communication is turned off.

In short, it retains most of the "primary" functionality you'd need for per-university level courses.
