Yes, the connection is part of the communication. No, it can't be causing the key slowdowns.

The issue has to do with the internal threads getting out of sync somehow with the screen updating. Yes it is being worked on. Did you request to sign up for the play beta testing? I suspect some invites will go out there sometime soon. We'd love you to help see if it is working better for you.

Also, closing the application and restarting it will get the screen back "in sync". Some devices see to never have the issue. Some very rarely, and some quite quickly.

The connections aren't new connections being created each time. Basically, the application acts as an IP server and waits to receive incoming broadcast packets from a connectivity kit. Then you can pick that connection in your list and connect to share data/apps and so on.
