I don't have a HP-01, but still find your work very remarkable.

I use 1.0 mm thick PCB. I couldn't go thinner, because the keyboard part wouldn't be stable enough then. Even 0.6 mm would not release me from making the IC at least a little bit thinner, because I need to remove 0.5 mm on both sides. Happily the chip has enough package material around the circuit.
