A multimeter is unlikely to tell you whether aluminium is clear anodized or has some sort of clear paint on it instead. Both are insulating. The very thin oxide layer created by the atmosphere is easily broken by multimeter probe (and that damage is invisible, we're talking nanometers) but the one created by intentional anodizing for a durable finish is a lot thicker: you're quite unlikely to get through that without leaving a mark. Paint would be thicker but softer. I can think of a few ways to tell the difference, some of which are non-destructive, but all of them are materials analysis lab level. I'll report back if I come up with something somewhat accessible. I do find paint quite unlikely, anodizing is pretty much standard for aluminium and for good reasons. |
