Thanks, Werner, for your explanations. this clarifies your point and I agree with this description. Matrix inversion and system solving share the same LU decomposition, then differ in the result, either inverted matrix or solution of the system.

I was aware of the refinements of the HP71 MAT ... SYS statement.
These refinements are not done in the RPL "matrix division" operation, but the 28S and later 48 series provide a RSD command to compute the residual.
