Thanks for all the tips! I didn't realize the classics could be safely used without a battery, so that's an important point to consider.

The 55 looks like it's way out of my price range, so that would narrow it down to the 45 or 80, or possibly 70. I'd probably lean toward the 80, since it has the distinction of being the first financial calculator.

Are the Spice models especially troublesome to keep working? It seems like a working 38C/E can be had for under $100, but I wouldn't want it to turn into a money pit/time sink.
