Programming challenges: processing vectors and matrices

I am wary of anyone saying "Avoid X" or "Always use Y". There are good reasons for having many different data structures (or programming languages, etc.). It is much more useful to say something along the lines of "think carefully, and choose the best tool for the job" Unfortunately, bombastic declarations get more clicks and views than calm, rational and thoughtful expositions.
