This really illustrates the point I'm making: the problem is the ambiguity of "conventional" algebraic notation, which doesn't exist in RPN. A user who is solving his own problem, and not just mechanically inserting numbers into a formula, will know whether he wants \(-(9^{2^3})\) or \((-9)^{2^3}\) and will naturally do the right thing.
