how to insert row / column in spreadsheet

Nope. It's one the many silly omitted capabilities of this otherwise very useful app. You also can't delete a row/column directly. The only choice is to select all the cells below the row or to the right of the column you wish to insert, and cut/paste them either down or right one row/column. It's very cumbersome but doable.
