As an experienced collector I read the listing carefully and made notes:

- The computer was opened, so the back label is worthless.
- The serial number of the calculator is not readable.
- The mainboard of the computer was replaced by HP, no bug in the ROM.
- The optical condition of the calculator is ... let's say mediocre, but not bad. The RedDot is visible.
- As accessories, a leather case and a power supply is included, no manual and no hardcase.

But I was a little bit surprised when I looked at the price of the computer. I think $1600 is already too much.
I now have about a dozen RedDots in my collection, but except for one BIG Bug calculator I didn't pay more than $1200 for any of them (all unopened of course).
I would be interested in your expertise on this offer. What do you think and what do you think the calculator is worth?

I fully agree with you; for the IMHO poor cosmetic condition, this price is far too high, and I expect no one here would pay that. It's sad and frustrating that there are far too many people with more money than brains, so this unit will likely be purchased, thus raising the already stupid high price for these.

Often, sellers of rare and interesting items will list them on eBay at crazy high prices, simply to have inquiries from potential buyers in order to learn more about them, find out what buyers are looking for, etc. And if it happens to be purchased at the ridiculous high price, well then that's OK too.

Finally, note that there is a "Make an Offer" option, which is likely how this deal will go down.

OTOH, I've paid more than most people would for certain other items, for the simple reason that it was worth that to me. No doubt this is worth $1600 to someone... so it's a matter of how patient the seller will be. If he/she is patient, I predict it will be purchased.
