HP Prime vs HP50
Hello!

Due of the pandemic here in Brazil I have to stay at home and as I had some money saved I bought an HP50 (USD 50) and an HP Prime (USD 80). Both used but working fine.

I liked the HP50 more.
And you, what do you think about?

50$ for a working HP50 is a good price.
Why do you you prefer it over the HP prime ?

Congrats to those prices, especially the $50 tag is very nice IMHO.

As for your question... You can get a taste of what's going to come in some older threads:

RE: HP Prime vs HP50
That's a really broad subject and you can find numerous posts giving the strengths of each. Here are my "off the top of my head" advantages for both models.

50g
- custom menus
- more customizable User keys (press, long-press, double-press, shift, shift-hold,..., Alpha-shift-hold-long-press)
- it is RPN to the core.
(The custom menus & User keys in combination with RPN makes the 50g exceedingly efficient to use. The ability to run a program or apply a function with a single keystroke simply cannot be matched by an Algebraic operating system)
- displays vectors in Rectangular, Polar, Cylindrical, or Spherical coordinates, making it my go-to calculator in physics.
- a beautifully terse programming language.
- mostly compatible with the 48/49 series and therefore has a LOT of software available.

Prime
- The touch screen is a game changer. Once my students see that, they are hooked.
- SPEED! It is very fast.
- higher res color screen
- Advanced Graphing
- up-to-date CAS
- a more readable programming language.
- better numeric integration (I teach calculus)
- a more modern look and feel

During the 50g years, I only convinced two students to use the 50g, and one of those was my son. The Prime, on the other hand, is a favorite among my students.

RE: HP Prime vs HP50
Hello!

Dollar (USD) is about 6 Brazilian Reals (BRL), so it is due of exchange and also because it is used.

Hello!

Because I have previous knowledge from HP48/49.

HP Prime is new to me and I need to learn everything.

However I am asking for a calculator with color display, high capacity memory and faster, since 1998.
It is just missing to work with solar cells:-)

Kind regards,

Carlos
