WP34S in less than 3 hours
Yesterday I received the long awaited WP34S stickers in my letter box. A HP30b I had already bought new for 17 Euro. So I started to bring them together. Opening the calculator and soldering the quartz was easy after having seen this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diJA2cCQenI.

I soldered a 2x3-pin 2mm socket strip on the pads for getting the connection to the outer world, an idea which I saw also somewhere in the forum, but don't remember where. I used a UM232 R FTDI Module http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Document...UM232R.pdf, which I had in my desk and added the Reset and Erase button, two 1k resistors and made a ribbon cable connection.
Then I used the link in the WP34S manual page 147 and downloaded the MySamba.zip Software and the WP34S bin.Files. Unfortunaltely MySamba didn't show any COM Ports to select under Windows 7. So I tried wp-34s-flash-windows tool, which showed my USB/COM Port, but didint get a connection. I assumed, that MySamba had problems with Windows 7, so I switched back to a Windows XP partition, and it worked! After 24 seconds transfer, I had my WP34S calculator in my hands (I couldnt believe it yet). Then I took some time to add the stickers.

Many thanks to the team who made this calculator. It is the most advanced RPN successor of all ever made HP (sorry WP) calculators, may I say it is the culmination of the ideal RPN calculator, that HP never made.

Here are the pictures. I didnt open the calculator again for the fotos, but you can imagine that I just removed the pins of the socket strip (made a SMD version) and soldered it to the pads.

I think, this is a minimalistic and easy to build hardware for everybody, who did not had the luck to get an original HP cable.

I really enjoy this machine! Thanks.

Here is my solution for the custom programming adapter.
Now I need to 3D print a custom case for the programmer PCB from Harald Pott. Enjoy Wink

:-) - I must thank you, too.

They arrived today. I ordered on 13. April and received on 17. April in Germany - unbelievable fast! I have to pay 6,72 Euro tax direct to the UPS postman.

What a pleasure to read. Now the WP34S is complete and I start building the 31S. Wink

Thank's again.

Your macro images are absolutely perfect!

I enjoy to see that this method did another successful WP34S transformation.

I'm not sure, because I can't remember exactly, but your old post from 2013 could be that one which inspired me to build my programming cable this way.

Thanks!
Bernhard

Thanks a lot Panamatik & Michael for the idea. I've just applied it to my WP34.

RE: WP34S in less than 3 hours
As a guide when checking if the solderings went right, here are some points one can use to check continuity.

The ERASE pin soldering can be tested with a multimeter whose + terminal is connected to ERASE and the - terminal to GND. The meter should read around 15 kOhm.

Hope this helps.

Regards.
