HP 50G ROM now that HP Prime is out
Message #1 Posted by Han on 18 Sept 2013, 2:18 p.m.

I have asked this question before, and I wish I could attend this year's conference (to re-ask the following question and possibly sign any applicable NDA).... but will we ever be able to see the ROM source of the older machines (my main interest is in the HP50G and HP48GX) now that it HP has moved on to a newer machine?

I have my own dissassembly of various ROMs, but I am very interested in the source for two things: to fix bugs in the older machines that I personally still use (deleting unnecessary stuff if needed so that there is room for the bug fixes), and to embed Jazz into flash (removing MASD).

Perhaps someone could bring this question at the conference this weekend?

Probably somewhere between "nearly completely impossible" and "impossible".

The 50g is still being sold and shipping, and will continue to do so. I doubt any lawyer would sign off on it.

Glad to know the 50g won't be discontinued, at least for the time being.

Gerson.

Are you sure? HP freely released the commented source code for the HP-75's operating system on a NOMAS basis (that's where the Roo-man and Joey saga resides). Then HP *sold* copies of the Internal Design Specification for the HP-71, which included the commented source code for its entire operating system. And HP made the commented source code for the HP 48 SX and GX available to registered developers. Is Prime in a different legal league?

Is it still possible to become one such registered developer?
