HP 34S complex # problem
Message #1 Posted by Richard Berler on 17 Feb 2013, 6:03 p.m.

I can't get the hang of working complex # problems on the 34S. The 15C manual has a problem that is intuitive on that platform and on the 35S, but not for me on the 34S:

2i(-8+6i)^3/(4-2sqrt5i)*(2-4sqrt5i)

The answer is ~ 9.3982-35.1344i

Thanks for any help!

Assuming you mean

2i(-8+6i)^3/((4-2sqrt(5)i)*(2-4sqrt(5)i))
and stack size is set to 8,
SSIZE8
then a possible keystroke sequence is
2 ENTER 0 ENTER 6 ENTER 8 +/- ENTER 0 ENTER 3 CPX y^x CPX *
5 SQRT 2 +/- * 4 ENTER 5 SQRT 4 +/- * 2 CPX * CPX /
This returns
     -->   9.39820200952
x<>y --> -35.1343865997

Thanks! I think that I can get comfortable with this.
