HP 30b serial port pinout
Message #1 Posted by xset on 30 Aug 2012, 12:20 a.m.

Hello

I tried to repurpose my HP 30b but was able only to ERASE firmware. Failed all attempts to connect via Sam-BA. Looks like there no clear picture of HP 30b serial port pinout. I found in some message:

J35 - GND J33- TxD J31 - Vcc J36 - ERASE J34 - RxD J32 - RESET

but according HP 20b schematics: J35 - (calculator output) J33 - (calculator input) J31 - Vcc J36 - ERASE J34 - GND J32 - RESET

Who knows the truth ?

Thanks in advance!

I managed to flash HP 30b to WP 34s !

I have Seeeduiono Mega, which i set to 3v mode. It has FTDI chip on board. All you need to get flashing tool - to connect right pins (Tx0 Rx0 GND 3V3).

As far HP 30b pinout - it seems to be same as HP 20b.

J35 - Calculator In (Rx0 on Arduino) J33 - Calculator Out (Tx0 on Arduino) J31 - Vcc (3v out) J36 - ERASE (when asked, connect to 3v3 output on Arduino) J34 - GND (Connect to GDN on Arduino) J32 - RESET (just use button above)

Check if Arduino (Seeeduino) talks on 3v levels on Rx0 Tx0 !!!

I found BH 6-pin connector and plugged 3 wires to pins (J35 J33 J34) Previosly I erased firmware according WP 34s flashing guide.

Then I started MySamba and pressed 6-pin connector to contacts and finally it WORKED !

I got my WP 34s. Now i am thinking about stickers and how to open the case to solder quartz in.

Congratulations! BTW, please see pp. 142 and 181 of the manual.

Edit: Added the pinout to the manual, build 3247. The two pages mentioned moved to 144 and 183.

Cool! Though I still could not find whole pinout for 6-pin connector there. Anyway I am going to solder caps and quartz, i see documentation will help me a lot.Thank you!

Look to the table of contents, then go to p. 185. What are you missing?
