I just Got my DM-15CC
Message #1 Posted by Gerry Schultz on 5 Apr 2012, 5:59 p.m.

My DM-15CC just arrived today. It looks like it was shipped on March 12th so it took almost 3 weeks to get from Benglen, Switzerland to Los Angeles, Ca. It's a cool little calculator. As others have commented, the keys a a little harder to push but it works fine for me so far.

This is great! Gerry

Isn't it impressive how a single person not only does the hardware, but also manages to write a _working_ emulator - even make use of additional memory?

I've notices a little square in the upper left corner of the display. It indicates (sometimes) when the user has to press another key to accomplish an operation. I miss this on the 15C LE. Is my display missing this anounciator or was it introduced by Mike just for the 15CC?

Thanks for the compliments, but I haven't done it all by my own. Most of the programming and the emulator was done by David. Please see http://www.rpn-calc.ch/#about

Michael,

You and David have really proven that a small team (of two) can REALLY produce a calculator. We have had many projects discussed on this site, and the results did not go much beyond preliminary software prototyping.

So hats off for the both of you for doing what I thought could never be done by a small group of people.

Namir

PS: I discovered that using the Nintendo DS3 pen is a wonderful way to press the DM-15CC's small keys and to do it reliably!

A question to the authors:

Is there also an emulator for PC available for your DM-15CC?
(if not then I guess it would be a nice idea, maybe even a time-limited trial version)

Or can your firmware files be converted anyhow to the format of the NonPareil emulator, so that they could be used with this NonPareil program?

It's just on the 15CC. I like it too!

The intention was to indicate it in all cases :). Please, let me know in which key sequences it isn't working as expected.

Thank You

Hi David,

thanks for that particular feature! It *sometimes* doesn't work on STO. Maybe it depends on previous steps, but I haven't found out how to enforce it.

Thank You anyway! :) Please, let me know in the case you will be able to reproduce it.

This shows what a small but highly inspired team can do. Hopefully HP will get the message.

I took a 15cc away on vacation for the past four days. Two problems arose:

  • The display is difficult to read in dim lighting -- even in differing levels of lighting.
  • The keyboard (even the second round easier to press version) isn't as reliable as I'd like.

The end result is you have to watch the display on every key press and this isn't always easy to do :-(

Otherwise, I'm impressed by the performance and form factor of this little calculator.

Any chance of a back light on future versions?

(ditto on all that)

next firmware version has the ability to change display contrast settings.

next hardware version has much more reliable keys. the pads on the PCBs of the first batch were too small; the second half of the first batch had soldered pads, but still too small because it was too late to change them.

a backlight for the display is a nice idea and might be possible in a future hardware version...
