Error HP 11C
Message #1 Posted by Hannes, Switzerland on 28 Sept 2010, 12:17 p.m.

Hello Guys,

I use a HP 11C for study since 2009 and Iam very happy with. It was bought in 1985 by my father on US holidays. Unfortunately I have a problem with it this days: It shows a blinking "3" on the display. All buttons and functions are disabled. I already tried to fix the problem with new batteries. Didnt work! Do you have a tipp for me to solve the problem? Is it an usual error?

Best Regards Hannes

Unfortunately that doesn't sound too healthy. Perhaps not very conclusive, but I'm curious if you can get it to do a self test ("x" down + "on" down/up + "x" up)? That will perform a rom checksum, ram scan, and bang on a raft of cpu instructions.

You might also try pulling the button batteries out and shorting the internal contacts to fully reset the unit.
