CST, SEL, MAR operations (OT ?, maybe)
Message #1 Posted by Alberto Fenini on 6 May 2010, 1:39 p.m.

Dear all, am I wrong or there are no early models from HP that offer these three funtions directly off the keyboard ? Thank you very much for help, alberto

No, you are correct.

The earliest models containing these functions were the HP 10B, HP 17B, and HP 14B ... or the HP 18c, which ever of these came first.

Probably because the relationship between these functions is essentially a fairly easy division of ( X - Y ) / ( T - Z ) or such.

:-)

Too bad ... you mean a loyal HP collector has to go for a TI Business Analyst to get those functions ? :))

I think they were considered too "elementary" to put on the business models at the time.

More important to have bond or amortization or linear regression than computing margin from:

(Sales Price - Cost ) / Sales Price

which is awfully elementary. :-)

When you say "early" models, did you mean models introduced early in the HP-calculator history? I believe that is how Gene interpreted and answered it....naming units which have long been discontinued. By "early", did you actually mean current "low-end"?

Jake

Well, by early I meant the classic family, the woodstock or the spice, or even the voyagers.
I'd like to use one of these for my everyday work, and since I started collecting then, I haven't been able to find those functionalities.
The TL function on the HP80 is good, but I also would like to have those.
I know, I can also write few lines of code and workaround the problem, but I would have preferred something more direct
I was just wondering if I had missing something on these lovely toys.
take care and thx for the replies.
