MLDL2000 'cosmetics' & more
Message #1 Posted by Vieira, Luiz C. (Brazil) on 22 Nov 2009, 5:16 p.m.

Hi, all;

right after building my first MLDL2000 (some years ago) I found it tricky to change the µswitches (select SR settings), and I was afraid of using the wrong tool and wear the little things out after a while. As a test, I cut a small piece of transparent acetate (normally used in custom wirebound printings) and it proved a very good choice, given that sharp edges are kept so you can use the edges to safely push the small switches. Then I decided to cut another piece of the same acetate with the dimensions of a regular magnetic card. Needles to say it was intended to fit in the tracks designed to hold an actual magnetic card. The results were unexpectedly good, given that the little acetate card actually composed a good-looking MLDL2000. In time: I tested with another acetate card with a smooth edge (the edgy tip was cut out) and I was not able to use it for pushing the µswitches.

Now that I built the second unit, I did the same and remembered I did not share this particular information. Please, check the pictures (click in any picture to enlarge).

Sorry taking too long to disclose it... And I hope it is of use.

Cheers.

Excellent idea! Maybe you could make it even better by printing a short explanation of the switches on the card!

Hi. Meindert;

thanks for your follow up.

Please tell me: how about this?

Is this what you had in mind?

Cheers.

The image http://www.lcvdata.kinghost.net/hewpack/mldl_card_layout.jpg looks ok if viewed separately but it does not appear in the post.

Looks nice! :)

HI, Marcus;

thanks for your feedback.

I can see it in my browser (Mozilla´s Firefox 3.5.5); which browser/system are you using?

I will change the name of the image file (remove the underscores and use common '-' instead) and see if it works in your case and any others.

Cheers.

Hola, Ángel; thanks for your follow-up.

I am wondering about how to print it...

The final layout might be easily drawn with any currently available, vector-based drawing software (CorelDRAW! being one of the well known Windows-based, not sure about its Linux/Mac counterpart). After that, the printer should be able to print over acetate, and I guess this would not be the problem. Ink could be silver, gold or even white, printed over transparent acetate. I thought about asking Diego what did he use to print Clonix and NoV-series labels; any ideas?

If I find a non expensive way to produce a bunch if them, I'd gladly pack and send them to the ones that are interested.

Cheers.

Luiz

Still no image. :(

I'm running Firefox on Mac OS. Interestingly, the images in your original post are all fine.
