I'm back! (...and HP stuff, of course...)
Message #1 Posted by Vieira, Luiz C. (Brazil) on 8 Oct 2009, 3:13 a.m.

Hi, all;

First of anything else, thank you all very much for your so generous and kind 'Welcome'. Either from those of you who wrote it down here or from the ones who dropped me an e-mail, I really appreciate. Thanks.

I’ve seen some new names around here, but most of all the same sharing spirit remains. As you may have already read, I am getting back to the MoHPC Forum the way I’ve been since 2001 after about two years without serious contributions. Hence, I have about two years of unread posts I need to check prior to actually participate as an ‘up-to-date’ contributor. Please, let me know if I’m loosing track and mentioning facts that have already been discussed.

I asked Dave to allow me to introduce the book ‘Voyagers in Brief’, being announced for the new CD/DVD set, but I had no answer so far (he is surely busy, I understand). Anyway, because it has been already announced here (last one in the list), there is no secrecy about it. I began writing it in 2005 and, after many ‘pit stop’ occurrences, I finished it about a month ago. Please, I would like to invite you to have a sip of it here (forgive the format, the PDF converter did it so...).

This first edition misses the following subjects: amortization, bonds and depreciation for the HP12C; numerical integration and SOLVE for the HP15C; floating-point numbers in the HP16C. Actually, it misses a bit more info about matrices in the HP15C, too, and that’s why I plan the 2nd. edition to be ready next year. I told Dave that I am not sure if this is the first book exclusively written for the MoHPC, and if so, I suggest inviting people to go ahead and do that! Please, let me know how do you like the ‘sample’. The idea is to make it simple, readable and not crowded with examples, just a few ones. As soon as it is fully available, suggestions and corrections, as always, are welcome.

I have also mentioned that I have uploaded some pictures to photobucket. Please, be my guest at this other collection: hewpack_lcv

MLDL2000 pics
Some HP41 LCD modules.

From electron_br, I have these so far:

A hot glue gun I repaired... maybe the concept helps someone.
Two Brazilian designed amplifiers from the same factory. The only ones made by them.
A small regulated power supply that I built to my workbench. I still can do it right!

Some pictures are not yet sorted, others were not added descriptions nor titles. I will add images constantly, and I’ll post about them.

There is more, but I think for now I wrote about too much.

Cheers!

You are absolutly remarkable. I was looking for a photo of the front to see what voltages you have but no luck. Are you going to give more detailed info about how you made the pc board?

Hi, Charles;

thank you for your words, I appreciate! Of course, just let me find the PCB layout I have in the computer and I'll send you the file, no problem at all. I have it in CorelDRAW! (cdr) format, would that be good for you? Can you use it as it is or should I convert it to a suitable format? Just let me know.

The adjustments are in the range:

0 to 30 Volts (thanks to the negative voltage at -REF pin, the LM327 goes to zero-volt output)
0 to 1 Amp

I have no data about voltage regulation, though. It works pretty fine for me, and in low output voltages, say, 5Vcc, with 150 mAmps or more, the 2N3055 goes really hot (unregulated peak voltage at the 2N3055 collector is about 43VDC). Needless to say it needs fair thermal dissipation (I used the box for that, will add a picture of the external view).

This is looking absolutely awesome, also layout-wise! Really looking forward to the next DVD set.

There are, however, some minor errors and typos, starting in the table of contents. You may be already aware of them. If you tell me your e-mail address, I'll mail you what I found.

Melhores cumprimentos,

Walter

Ola, Walter; tudo bem?

Thanks for your support and encouragement, I appreciate. Please, feel free writing me at:

Learning is a continuous process, and correcting what can be better is part of it. As an engineer, I do not believe in 'trial and error', instead in 'trial and correction'. Actually I think this is the correct term, people just use the first one to justify the need for errors... 8^)

Looking forward to your contact.

Saudações (close to Saludos in Spanish, right?)
