Re: Got the 50g... Message #8 Posted by bhtooefr on 24 Nov 2007, 7:22 p.m., in response to message #1 by Arne Halvorsen (Norway)
I got my 50g today... and this is my first HP calculator. My previous calculator is a TI-83+, from a later production run with a lower contrast screen than the original TI-83+s. I had wanted one for a while, and decided to get one. Decided I didn't like the styling of the 33s, had heard bad things about the 35s (and I find it expensive for what it is,) had heard that the 48gII has keyboard issues (not to mention, the weird serial port and lack of expandability,) the 50g was a bit overkill, and 48GXs seem to go for a lot on fleabay.
So I went for a bit overkill. ;)
First impressions...
Umm, wait, I bought an HP because I wanted RPN. Don't give me algebraic by default.
Those keys are INCREDIBLE.
I find the case to be nice, especially considering the TI-83+ just had that slide cover.
The manual... I skimmed it, saw it seemed to cover algebraic more than RPN, tossed it aside, and kept reading the 48G quick start guide that I had downloaded when I was still looking for a 48GX.
Wow, this thing is wicked fast. (Just imagine if it were running natively on the ARM...)
The included link cable is a nice touch. Not that a USB cable costs that much, but... And, Conn4x is spartan, but once you know what you're doing, that's fine.
The screen is great.
Oh, and RPN rules. :) (But I already knew that much. ;))
