Mixing NiMH & NiCd
Message #1 Posted by Geir Isene on 25 May 2007, 3:46 a.m.

When rebuilding a woodstock battery pack, is it ok to use one NiMH and one NiCd battery?

Hello!

No! The have different internal resistances and also different charching behaviours. This means, that the NiCd cell will always get discharged first and then polarity reversed while the NiMH cells continue to supply current, a process that kill the cell after very few cycles. You are supposed to not even mix different cells of the same kind if possible.

Greetings, Max
