Ditto on the short-life batts (HP 33s)
Message #1 Posted by ECL on 22 May 2006, 9:38 p.m.

I noticed a few recent posts on the battery life of the 33s.

Having completed another semester of my engineering degree (I'm finally on to the last semester!), I pulled out my stack of backup calcs.

Here is the status of three of my 33s':

1: CNA52707099 (Daily use) - No battery indicator. Good.

2: CNA41707402 (drawer backup) - Dead. Last used November '05. Bad!!

3: CNA41708631 (weekly use at work) - Batt Low Indicator. Bad!

A stand-by life of a half year is dissapointing. Heck, even my 48G has been on stand-by and in-use for matrix math the whole semester.

HP, quo vadis

PS I do not want to hear any CEO anymore talking about China as the promised land. This is AGAIN below all standards! Cheep junk is what is made there. And those same CEO's talk about sustainable production and products and care for the environment, please don't make me laugh.

Instead of 18 years of battery life we're getting 18 months.

John

I found the Chinese made stuff are getting a lot better now. I still don't like buying them though. I think one day they will make high quality products and their products will be sold at high prices and in the end we simply lose our bussiness to China. We still can buy high quality stuff at high prices, I just wonder how we make the money to buy them.

I had only 3 months of very light usage for my CNA41xxx HP33S. I had assumed that it was probably due to long shelf storage and may be inadequate storage conditions (temperature, humidity). I have put in high quality battery in 2 weeks ago. This way I'll have a measurable assessment.

I keep my fingers crossed.
