Could we be looking at the end? If Wal Mart is dropping the 33S that would mean a big decrease in market exposure On the other hand, maybe the majority of sales happen on-line or through college bookstores so the loss of Wal Mart doesn't have a big effect.
Has anyone seen a 33s with a serial number of CNA6xxx?
I haven't seen a CNA6xxx 33s. The latest s/n I've seen is 542. I have seen a s/n 601 10bii so Kinpo appears to still be producting something with the HP logo.
Yes, it appears that Walmart stores are dropping the 33s. What others are reporting from various regions of the US is also happening at the Walmart stores in my area of Houston, Texas - the 33s is being moved to the clearance areas of the store and are being discounted. They are currently marked $41 and are a mix of versions.
To be honest, I'm not surprized. The $45 or $50 33s was probably viewed as overpriced by the average Walmart shopper who has a choice of buying a $15 Casio or TI scientific. The 33s should have been priced lower maybe at $30 to fit in with other specialty algebraic calculators sold at Walmart such as the HP 10bii and the TI BAii+.
Other potential detractors may have been the small decimal point and comma as well as having both rpn and algebraic with rpn being the default. I wonder how many 33s's may have been returned because the user didn't understand the difference between rpn and algebraic mode settings. I'm sure that no one in the store could help them.
Walmart is pretty aggresive regarding eliminating products that don't sell well or have high return rates.
