Message #1 Posted by Craig on 18 Oct 2006, 3:22 p.m.

I am running a 48g. When i enter a quadratic equation, that i can solve by hand, into the quadtric solver under symbolic i don't get both answers. I get one correct answer and a error for undefined name and an answer with s1 in it. I think that s1 is some kind of symbolic by i could be wrong. Help me and i need to be able to solve quadratic equations with my calculator.

The "s1" represents an arbitrary sign. It corresponds to the ± (plus-minus-sign) in standard mathematical notation. You can get your answers by substituting +1 and -1 for s1.
