HP 35 adapter 03502A
Message #1 Posted by Michael on 23 Mar 2006, 3:28 p.m.

I have the old 03502A adapter for the HP 35 calculator. It doesn't work correctly: when connected to the calculator, then after switching the calculator ON the display lights just for a split second and then the display switches off. Does anbody know, how to open this adapter? There are no visible screws.

Thanks

Michael

it's sealed - you can only crack it open (which is btw not easy...)

Hi Michael,

Did you check if it the problem is not in the wire itself, I think that is a common problem ?

Voltage between the center pin and the left pin is cca 4.2V, the same 4.2V is between the center pin and the right pin.

That's only the off-load voltage. I'd suggest checking the voltage again with the calculator plugged in - it's probably well below 4.2V, which hints at a defect (capacitor?)

Does the calculator work with another charger?

One voltage stays ar 4.2V during load, the second drops to cca 3.3V. I mean that the voltage between the center pin and one of the outer pins should be 16V though. The calculator works well with an another adapter.

Even though you say the calculator works with another charger, you might want to check the ON/OFF switch.

On my '35, the switch is rather intermittent, and one of the symptoms seems to be that the calculator switches ON but then goes off immediately. Wiggling the switch (i.e. jiggling the slider back and forth a bit in the on position) will confirm a problem: the LEDs will blink on and off. Spraying some electronic contact cleaner into the switch (be careful, don't overdo it!) may help.
