[Slightly O.T.] 256KBx8 SRAM in SOP
Message #1 Posted by Han on 17 Feb 2006, 6:42 p.m.

I know that there are 2Mb (256KBx8) CMOS SRAM DIP chips. Did anyone ever manufacture them in small outline packages (SOIC)? I seem to come up with nothing via Google -- the hits I get usually point toward Flash RAM. So did any company manufacture these?

I have never seen a 256Kx8 SRAM in any package. 256Kx16, yes; otherwise 128Kx8 or 512Kx8. These are easily available in SOIC.

Garth,

Thanks for the response. I tried several distributors -- even searched their out-of-stock lists. I managed to find a few 2Mbit (256KBx8) SRAM chips in DIP form (www.digikey.com) prior to posting my question. However, no one seems to have (ever had) any 2Mbit (256KBx8) in the small outline packages. It's odd that these seem to have never ever existed.

Same thing with 16Kx8 SRAMs. They went from 8Kx8 to 32Kx8. If you want 16Kx8, you use half a 32Kx8, just tying one of the address lines to ground or Vdd.
