Message #1 Posted by F Sievenpiper on 16 Dec 2005, 2:29 p.m.

Lost manual,installed new batteries, now I get a user with a 0 above it and 2 zero's on right side. How do I get the calc to work?

Hi, F. Sievenpiper.

It seems to me that your HP11C is displaying number with SCIentific mode, one digit mantissa. To change this, have a look at your calculator and, please:

  • locate the [f] (orange, golden) prefix key;
  • verify that over the [7], [8] and [9] keys you have [FIX], [SCI] and [ENG] printed in gold, in the keyboard faceplate;
  • choose one of these modes (your 11C is already in SCI) and the number of significant digits (from 0 to 9) you want in the mantissa;
  • press [f], ([FIX], [SCI] or [ENG]) and the number key corresponding to the number of significant digits you've chosen.

As an example, the default display for the HP11C (and the HP10C and the HP15C) is a fixed, 4-digit, that can be restored with:

[f] [FIX] 4

To toggle to and from the USER mode, simply press:

[f][USER]
(please, check the golden inscription over the [RCL] key, in the keyboard faceplate).

Hope this helps for now.

Best regards.

Luiz (Brazil)

The "user" is removed by pressing {f} {user} (on the {RCL} key).

"user" reverses the functionality of buttons A,B,C,D,E so that the {f} shifts are primary, and pressing {f} gets you the main function. (Useful if you have *user* programs stored).

Note that the museum CD/DVD sets have the 11c manual available.

Regards,

Bill

It is always a *very good* idea to reset a Voyager after a battery exchange, all of the problems you mention should disappear without further fuss. This of course assumes you have no programs installed that need to be held in memory.

  1. Turn the unit off
  2. Press and hold the "-" key
  3. Press and release the ON button
  4. Release the "-"
  5. You should see "Pr Error"
  6. Turn it off and then on again and all the weirdness you've experienced should be gone
