new rpn calcs
Message #1 Posted by brian healy on 31 Oct 2005, 1:20 p.m.

Is anyone aware if HP is working on a design for a successor to the 33s, or to any of its other currently offered calc's?

Having attended the HHC2005 conference in Chicago in September, I asked myself the exact same question. I was hoping something would be shed on successors to the 33s or 49G+. Alas, nothing. Th emain focus in the conference, regarding new stuff from HP, was improving on the current versions of the 33s and 12C Platimum.

This forum has discussed these improvements somewhat recently.

Namir, can you elaborate on what the HHC Conference is? I am not familiar with it. I assume HHC stands for hand held computer?

The HP calculator user groups have been holding conferences, almost annually since 1979. The most recent one was held in the Chicago area in September and was called "HHC2005". The web sites for the last three conferences are still up if you want to see them:

HHC2003 is located at http://holyjoe.net/hhc2003/

HHC2004 is located at http://holyjoe.net/hhc2004/

HHC2005 is located at http://holyjoe.net/hhc2005/

The next U.S. conference is tentatively scheduled for September 16th and 17th and various locations are being discussed, such as San Diego, San Jose and others. Information will be posted here and at comp.sys.hp48 when it is firm - probably by early Summer. For what it's worth, all the conferences going back to 1989 have been videotaped. For info on obtaining copies, check out http://www.pahhc.org/video.htm on the web.

Again, Bram, that series of posts does not say HP will be making a new RPN calculator. All Mary did is say they were getting ready for the anniversary of the 12c.

I think they just want stories to post on a web page you won't be able to find on their website.

I'll eat my hat if HP comes out with anything other than a cosmetically changed 12c for this anniversary. Perhaps they'll do it in one of those lovely shades of plum they seem to like.

Do we know if Mary is really from HP or just someone pulling our chains?

Mary, Mary quite contrary

No we don't. I mean anyone could come here and say they work for HP or TI or ? and there would be very little we could do to stop it.

I wish people would quit getting their hopes built up. At best, we'd get a 12c with a different bezel saying something about a 25th anniversary.

So what and big deal.

I do not think she is pulling our chain or an HP employee.

All indications are that Mary works for an ad agency (Source Communications) hired to develop the promotional material for the 12C anniversary edition.

I hope she was able to get some good ideas, but doubt she has any influence on future HP calculator production.

What Mary said.

She never said "12c anniversary edition" that I recall.

She said for the upcoming anniversary.

Hence, the speculation running wild.

True; that's why I said "perhaps".

She also said: "(...) what you would like to see in terms of a 25th anniversary promotion that we are working on (...)"
That doesn't *exclude* a new or brushed up model, does it?
But the odds are very very low, I know. I was just connecting discussions.
