041229 Help requested for data exchange between computer/laptop and HP48GX via USB port

My new laptop no longer has any COM port, only 2 USB ports.
How can I exchange data both ways between it and my HP48GX?
I did purchase an UC-232A USB to 9-pin SERIAL Converter made by ATEN (http://www.aten.com/02-p-category.php?id=163)but I cannot make it work. Any help here would be most appreciated.
