What does everyone think of this HP-41CX emulator running on the palm? Comes with almost every ROM module you can think of, for only $10.

Hi Gene,

I bought P41CX just when it came out 1 month ago. I think it's a great emulator and I use it everyday. The price is right and I'm looking forward to new modules and enhancements.

Happy programming Daniel

I bought P41CV right before the appearance of P41CX so I paid only $7 *and* got a free upgrade (to 41CX). The author is great, and he e-mailed me the new proggy as soon as it was released ;)

Eduardo

PS: Yes, I *totally* love it, and the price couldn't be more right... I was toying with the idea of buying MathUPro (for $35, I think) until I came across this killer app.

Emulators generally

This is the sort of software/hardware future I have been following, too---I think that ultimately there is the possibility of a decent calculator, if and when the hardware improves as far as interface (buttons) goes.

The Tungsten C is a start in the right direction (but $500!).

I am curious about other emulators, too---HrastProgrammer has a number of them (I am not sure if for palm yet)--and there are others--and even a bunch emulating the 48 series.

Did HP give their rights to the 48 to the public domain? Is the 41 so old that it is automatically public?

Great emulator! I use it now for almost a month as standard calculator on my Sony Clié (T615), for the moment being as unregistered version. All functions are there as well as 2 X-Memory modules and the Advantage module. Only the printer emulator does make mistakes (not a right printout). What i find absolutely well made is the P41CX Memo Compiler, which enables me to download HP41 programs, put them in a memo on the Clié and then directly transfer it to the P41CX. Well done!

regards, Hugo

Tell me more about the memo compiler...

I have a clie...tell me more about how you do this. Where do you get the programs, what format do you download them in? Give me the 1, 2, 3's of the process. :-)

1) you need the memo compiler (P41CXKC12.zip) from the site where can also download the P41CX. After synchronising this compiler to your Clié you are able to use memo's to write and compile programs for P41CX. 2) i use Microsoft Outlook to synchronise memo's between my Clié and my computer; i assume you could also use other programs like the Palm desktop, but the procedure would be comparable; 3) as an example, let's take the program for the calculation of Reynolds numbers from the Chemical Engineering Solution Book which you can find in the HP41C Sofware library on the MoHPC. Open this page on MoHPC and select the prgram with the cursor; copy to the clipboard; open Outlook, create a new memo and paste it in there. Do not forget to add the following as the first line of the memo: #P41CX LOAD otherwise the compiler will not recognize this memo as a HP41 program to compile. 4) synchronise this memo to the Clié 5) on the clie start the application P41CXKX (the compiler), it will indicate "Loading P41CX program from memo pad... OK" 6) In the menu of this application, choose "Go" "Compile", you will see then the program scrolling as the compiler loads it. 7) start P41CX, start program mode "PRGM" and select the menu of P41CX by clicking the button for menus on your Clie (the one below the Home icon) 8) choose "Edit" "Load" and the P41CX will load the program in its memory (you can follow it on the display)

This way, all programs you can find in the MoHPC program library are "easily" downloaded to your P41CX!

hope this explanation can help you

Hugo

I have it. I use it, it's a dream come true, at a *very* reasonable price. Werner

Actually the emulator is free under the GPL.

It was ported from Eric L. Smith's nsim emulator for Linux.

The cost is for the addons that Charles Lee added.
