HP 29C problem
Message #1 Posted by Christopher Migdal on 2 Apr 2003, 3:50 p.m.

I have owned my HP 29C calculator since it was new. I still use it all the time. A while back I noticed that when I turned the calculator on it would occasionally come up with the "Error" message indicating continuous memory was lost. This happened more and more often until it pretty much happened all the time in the last few days.

Then when I turned it on today, after I cleared the Error message, the calculator was in ENG 2 display mode. I cannot get it out of this mode. Everything else about the calculator works fine. Calculations work and it runs programs fine.

Has anybody seen this and can offer a diagnosis and a prognosis ?

Thanks.

First thing I'd check is your rechargeable batteries. Does the problem persist if you keep it on AC? (be careful with the AC... AC can fry your electronics if you don't have good batteries to attenuate the AC power)

I tried it with the AC adaptor. The behaviour was unchanged. It is still unhappy.
