9114 disk drive - battery
Message #1 Posted by Terry Ingram on 17 Mar 2003, 11:46 a.m.

Hello,

Does anyone know where I can find a battery pack & charger for the hp9114 portable disk drive.

I've contacted Digi-Key regarding the "P262-ND" battery as suggested by an article on this web site, but was informed the battery is no longer available.

Also, are there a substantial difference between the 9114 & and 9114B disk drives?

Thanks, Terry Ingram

I think that there was an extensive discussion on this just last week...there was some good information passed around too. See postings on 3/16.

I just replace the cells in a 9114a disk drive last week. Per Tony Duell's suggestion I acquired some sealed lead acid batteries made by Hawker Energy (formerly Gates). They are shaped like D-cells but are 2.5ah 2volt cells with both terminals on one end. There is a pack of three sold with a part number 0810-0077AJ. The plastic pack can easily be taken apart to get the three cells out, already wired in series. That set of three fits almost perfectly inside the battery pack for the 9114a drive, and it seems to be perfectly compatible with the charging circuit. Took about 15 minutes for me to assemble, once I found the batteries. And it now works fine.

Thanks for information. But I think my question was worded incorrectly.

I haven't purchased a 9114 yet, but through a phone conversation with the seller, I was told the entire battery pack was missing. I was also told the AC adapter plugged directly into the battery pack.

I'm assuming that I would need an original battery pack, or possibly some other method to hold the cells in place, and also be able to connect the AC charger.

Does anyone have a working 9114 for sale?

Thanks, Terry Ingram

I don't have one to sell, however I might have some information that will help. The connector on the drive, inside the cavity that the battery pack goes into, where the battery pack itself connects to the drive, is a standard two-pin connector. You can buy it many places. All you need is a 6 volt source to power the drive. Tony said that you should have a source that can handle 2 amps. I've seen them powered with wall warts and external battery packs. Of course you would need to be able to charge the pack if you use one of your own design externally. The charging circuit was part of the original battery pack and was powered by the "standard" HP wall wart 82059 that put out 8vac, 3W. Obviously it could not power the drive, just charge the pack.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

maybe I have that suitable battery drawer for sale. I'll look in my stock, if you're interested.

As I mentioned in another post, the original replacemnet battery pack from Panasonic costs about 11 to 12 Euros plus shipping here in Germany. No fiddling with discrete cells, just a five minute replacement of the whole block.

I could include a new Panasonic block, just drop me a note via email.

Regards,

Raymond
