48GX IR POrt
Message #1 Posted by John Kercheval on 19 Apr 2002, 10:37 a.m.

Is this IR port on the GX useful for anything other than use with the IR Printer?

You can use it to connect to another 48S/G/X and I have heard (haven't done it) you can build a simple IR interface for a PC. In all cases, doing with the IR what you can do with a cable.

There are programs out there that allow you to use the HP-48GX as a TV/VCR remote control. Out of curiosity, I tried it, and was able to play tricks on my kids by changing channels while they had the remote control. . . <g>

On a more serious note, I believe there are programs that can upload/download to a notebook with an IR port. Never tried that, though.

Best,

I did this with my Omnibook 300 and my HP100LX.

I remember myself using KERMIT and XMODEM protocols. You can use the cable too, but it was too much work fiddling around with the cable all the time (though transmission would have been much faster).
