HP-65 Variations
Message #1 Posted by Mike on 11 Apr 2002, 11:16 p.m.

I'm curious. I've seen people remove the silver trim from around the keyboard on badly worn calculators.

There is someone on eBay selling an HP-65 that has no silver trim. The ridge looks like it is there but it is without trim.

He is saying that it is a "A DIFFERENT VERSION THAN NORMAL."

Anyone know the 65s has a special variation without the trim? Or is this just a case of removed trim?

I am pretty sure this is a case of worn/removed trim. If the plastic was not properly prepared the vacuum deposited trim would not stick and would flake off very easily. Once it started to go, all you had to do was rub it and it would come off without leaving a trace. The Ebay machine keyboard looks like it was fairly well used.

I have a "stealth" HP67 with no trim or labels. It makes it look totally different from "normal" machines.

I know it "can" be done

But what I was wondering is if any 65s we ever manufactured without the trim, as a variation?

Was your "stealth" 67 manufactured that way? I can sse a label being left off but it seems odd that the trim would be.

There are no versions of the HP-65 without trim the trim is worn off and the calc is of little value if you care for cosmetics. I suppose it may still function as a calculator...

No, my '67 was just worn. There were a couple of inches of silver left... I wiped it off. As far as I know HP never intentionally made a unit with trim.
