New formatting style and new features like links
Message #1 Posted by Dave Hicks (USA) on 21 Oct 2001, 7:01 p.m.

Well I started out just to add a biographies forum as requested below and ended up fixing a few things in the other forums first...

If you click on the formatting link at the top of the page or here you'll see that the formatting style has been changed and some new capabilities (like that link I just did) have been added. There's both a [link] code that allows you to name the link and a simpler [url] code that uses the address as the name so if I enter: [url:http://www.hpmuseum.org/artfmt.htm] then I get http://www.hpmuseum.org/artfmt.htm

The style change is mostly due to complaints over the old [pre: ] codes. Essentially, if you had any brackets in the code you were posting, you had to escape them. (This was true for any format but it was most obvious in pre.) So, all the codes have been changed over to a more htmlish style like:

[pre]
This is the new way
to do a
preformatted list. Just paste your code
in between the pre codes
and you'll get something like:
[/pre]

Likewise [bold: ] has changed to [bold]some text[/bold] which displays like some text etc.

Also, lists have been added. See the formatting page for examples and more info. (I coded that last link like: [link:http://www.hpmuseum.org/artfmt.htm]the formatting page[/link])

Once I get the Bios forum up, I'll start working on my Pile of email. Sorry to anyone who's feeling ignored. I've been in China and the email is piled deep.

For an example of what you can do
