hp 11 c
Message #1 Posted by larry schofield on 15 Oct 2001, 5:26 p.m.

It has been some time since I have programed my HP 11 c. I only have sto functions on 0 and 1. The numbers 2 through 9 give me an error 3. I tried pushing the x key, and then turn on. It ran through the running sequence, but I am still getting an error 3. I can't remember now, but I know I have cleared the entire memory before. Can any one help? Larry

Hello, Larry.

Let me know: do you get an Error 3 when running the [ON] [X] selftest? This is strange... I have only seen Error 9 when running the selftest. Error 3 is related to memory access.

Please, press [g] (and release) then [MEM] (and mantain pressed); you should see something like:

P-nn r-v or P-nn r-.v

where nn is the number of lines of program available before another register is converted into 7 program lines, and v (or .v) is the next register to be converted, if so.

If you press [g] [MEM] (keep [MEM] pressed) and v is 1, so there are only two registers available: 0 and 1. nn will be in the range 00 to 06.

When memory is cleared, [g] [MEM] should result in

P-63 r-.9 (if I am not wrong; I once had an HP11C, now I own an HP15C, that shows more information with [g] [MEM])

If you wnat to clear memory, the sequence is [ON] [-]; [ON] [X] just runs the selftest.

Thanks for the info. I pushed + and on last night. The calculator was still flashing running this morning. It looks like it worked because it does show p-63 r-9, and I have my sto cells back. Thanks

Hello, Larry;

just to check it out.

The [ON] [+] sequence starts an ENDLESS LOOP that must be stopped with a key-press (if you press [ON] again, test resumes and calculator turns off). Both [ON] [X] and [ON] [+] are equivalent, except for this fact. Thatīs why your calculator runned all night long; be aware of using [ON] [+], cause it is endless.

Anyway, it should not show P-63 r-.9 unless all program memory is erased, say, no program lines used. This can be done by:

- clearing all program memory - [f] CLEAR PRGM

calculator should be in PRGM mode (press [g] [P/R] and check for PRGM indicator in the display)

- clearing all memory - [ON] [-] sequence

Even if you got success on having your registers back to use, itīs good practice detecting the point of failure, so you can avoid it in the future ;-)

Hope it helps.
