What king of batteries does a HP-01 take?

It uses 3pcs of SR-44 batteries, as you can read in http://www.hpmuseum.org/features/01f.htm here on the HP Museum

I am not particularly knowledgeable about the HP01, but let me just say that the SR44 and LR44 are similar batteries both in size and voltage. Both are cheap and rather common at batteries stores.

While in many cases they may be interchanged, LR44 are alkaline (cheaper); and have a shorter life than the (a little more expensive) silver-oxide SR44. So, for quality applications such as the HP01 (and even for some more common calculators like the HP32S, HP42S, etc), it is advisable to use SILVER OXIDE SR44, and not to use ALKALINE LR44.

A little tid-bit regarding alkaline button cells (I learned this on the Eveready website): within the alkaline family, there are two variations in some sizes, potassium hydroxide vs. sodium hydroxide electrolyte. The A-H capacities are the same but one (I think it is potassium hydroxide) has a higher intermittent current (and the voltage still in spec) so is recommended for watches with alarm beepers while the original electrolyte is fine for watches without beepers. I looked into this because I was trying to replace the battery in a watch at Radio Shack and there was a discrepancy between the catalog and the info printed on the bubble packs regarding what part numbers were equivalent.
