Re: HP-33E Parts

My expereince with repairing PCBs and flexiprints (and I have done a lot) is that it's much better to solder the wire to an existing solder joint than to try to solder it to the end of the track. The larger surface area of track in the former case makes for a much stronger connection. I was not suggesting that you replaced the entire flexiprint, BTW. Keep the part on the PSU board and the 'tail' that connects to the keyboard/logic. Just cut off the bit that used to go to the battery contacts. Then solder the new wires to the any appropriate connection on the PSU board -- others will still be connected to it by the flexiprint. I did this in my 32E, and I had no problem in finding joints to solder the wires that would allow the machine to fit together without cutting away any of the plastic support moulding. At the battery contact end, I've had no problem at all soldering to the battery contacts or rivets. They take solder very easily (in fact in the design with the helical-spring battery contacts, the latter are soldered to the rivets by HP). In any case it is _possible_ to solder to aluminium :-)
