HP 41CV Defect Battery Pack
Message #1 Posted by Joyce van Middelkoop on 27 Aug 2001, 3:43 a.m.

Who can help me with an Alkaline Battery Pack for my HP 41CV? The spring has broken when i inserted new batteries. The dealer just suggested: buy a new calculator! Please contact me at: joycevanmiddelkoop@hotmail.com

Hello.

I faced the same situation some years ago. At that time, I just inserted a common, helical spring between the separated part of the spring (a little metal plate) and the base, fixed in the pack itself. It worked fine till the batteries died.

If this is the situation you have, this was my solution.

I thought your pack was the Rechargeable Battery Pack; you have a Battery Holder with a broken spring, right?

This way, have you thought about another spring? The ones used in the battery holder do mot have special material, just an special shape. There is always a way to solder two springs (some IR controlers use spring-shaped contacts about the size and shape of the ones used inthe 41), you just have to find someone to do it.

Sorry if I get confused with the batteries´ pack .

I'd suggest to recycle a paper clip... this has helped me a lot in the past....

Trouwens Joyce, ben je uit Nederland ?

Over here in the UK you can get cheap plastic battery holders designed to take various numbers of the standard size cells (AAA, AA, C, D, etc). You can even get them for N-size cells if you hunt around a bit. When I need a replacement battery spring I often buy one of these holders to sacrifice for the springs. The problem here is that the HP41 has effectively double springs, but I would have thought you could solder a couple of springs taken from battery holders together to make something that would work.
