Re: HP 42S emulation on a 48GX?

I think almost anyone who has used a 42s likes its features and prefers it over the 48, unless they do need the Horsepower of the 48. If I had to chose only one calculator to use out of my collection to travel with and use in my field, it would be the 42. Its easy to customize and program. If it had I/O and more ram, I feel it would be better than any present calculator to own.

I prefer it to any other calc, however, since I cannot just run out and buy another, I use a 48 at my desk, and play with my 42 at home.

I don't really know why I never wanted to own a 42. I have several 41C,CV and CX for a long time. I also have a 48SX and a 48GX. I found the 48's are more powerfull than the 41's and I do miss many features on the 41's. I don't know of any 42 emulator. I did used the free software emulation of the 41 on the 48GX and the 41CV emulator card on the 48SX. Both worked well but didn't match the real thing. May be I don't want a 42 because it has no mass storage capability (card reader, tape, transfer to a PC etc..). And then again may be I should have bought one at the time HP discontinued them. I remember I could get one at Walmart for $40 brand new.

I work with structural matrix analysis and this is why I donīt carry my 42S with me. Try to manipulate matrix in a 42S and youīll become tired. Iīd rather do long hand computation than use a 42S for matrix operations. Itīs just a matter of use. For matrix, just choose the best, work with a 49G.
