Spice repair
Message #1 Posted by Thibaut on 21 Aug 2000, 8:18 a.m.

Hi everybody !

I recently bought a 37E that was not working.

As it is often the case, I supsected a power problem. I opened it by the 2 screws in the battery compartment and noticed that the power lead was teared about the half of its width.

There is a plastic cap under which the lead goes. As I didn't see how to make a new one, I had no other choice than findind a good contact and to solder a good old electrical wire.

I had to unclip the whole inside thing when damned ! the 2 unsoldered chips (a large one and a small one) jumped at my face ! In french, we do call these "loose", now I understand why !

Okay, my main concern now is to know.... on what side are they supposed to be on the plate : in other words, there is on any chip a side marker, usually a small notch on one side. Does this notch (for both chips) are supposes to be in direction of the led segments or on the other direction ?

Thanks for your much appreciated help !

Thibaut,

Just checked one of my "for parts" Spice machines and yes, it appears that pin 1 should be in the direction of the LED display for all chips.
