Parts Buying/Selling
Message #1 Posted by Katie Wasserman on 26 July 2000, 1:38 a.m.

I just posted a WTB ad for a particular 97 part (printer spur gear) here. That got me to thinking about the need that some of us have for obtaining parts to fix broken HP calculators. I keep a few spares around for just that purpose, but don't have the resources to stock everything that I need. I would love to have some place for buying/selling spare parts -- not whole calculators. Has anyone tried to set up such a forum before? Aside from batteries, card reader o-rings, LED displays and various case screws does anybody find the need for the other HP calculator parts?

I certainly have the need for parts every now and again, maybe a dedicated forum would help, generally people just post ads in the classifieds. I am also interested in having impossible to get parts remanufactured.

It would be nice if there was a manufacturer of old parts; however, since it would most likely not be profitable, it will never happen. That's why HP will never make the 42S again. From their point of view, new users only want graphing calculators or HP wants to get the new user by selling algebraic logic calcs. I also have a part wanted ad on the classifieds. Maybe if Mr. Hicks could just put another category in the selections "Part Wanted" or something like that it would help. Randy

There's no problem at all with for sale or WTB ads for parts in the classifieds section. I'll make this more clear in the intro paragraph.
