HP95LX display?
Message #1 Posted by Jan Kronlund on 21 June 2000, 3:44 p.m.

Has anyone opened the 95LX's display? How do you do it? Screws or clips and where? I have to open, so that I can repair a cracked hinge. Thanks for the help in advance :-)

Before you open, does it work now? If it does, don't. My wife cracked her hinge on her HP200 lx (same case, just newer insides). I used super glue gel into the cracked hinge(only a little) and a couple rubber bands to hold it tight until the glue set up and it has worked and looked like new since. My problem wasn't a major break, if yours isn't, I recommend to try my method first since you will probably damage cosmetics anyway.

Good luck.

I appreciate your warning ;-). However, my 95's display(cover)is totally limp, due to the missing of the clutch that is in the right hinge (which is the broken side). The hinge is in 4 pieces and it it quite impossible to glue together "as is". Thanks for the warning though.

You might be able to get a replacement. You should order it as a HP100LX (color matches) or, if the 100 is too old, a HP200LX replacement part (color's different, but who cares).

It might be hard to get the part number.

That's what I love in the auto industry: You go to the service station (there's a plenty of them) and talk with some (usually rather old) guy, who knows everything abt the car you have to repair and finds the part in 5 minutes, Maybe he has to backorder it, but you get, what you want. I own a 1976 Opel Ascona and still get replacement parts.

HP sells a "field repair kit" for the LX palmtops. It's not going to fix your hinge, but it does include miscellaneous parts like the hinge end-caps, battery doors, IR port window, rubber feet (I think), etc.. Last time I checked (a year ago), it was around $16. You'll have to call HP support at (970) 392-1001 for more info. Matt
