9114 disk drive commands
Message #1 Posted by Brendon Nafziger on 26 Jan 2000, 9:03 p.m.

Looking through this forum it appears that the 9114 is a common topic. I have already determined from other posting that I probably need a new battery pack (the "FAULT" light does not go off, the drive light flickers constantly, and I get "broken loop" warnings) but my other problem is that I know nothing about the commands to use the drive with my hp71B. In particular, I am needing to know commands to format, save to disk, read from disk, and catalog. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I assume you have the HP 82401A HP-IL Interface for your HP-71 (otherwise you'd have no way to connect it to the drive.) Do you have the documentation for the HP-IL interface? All the disc commands are listed under "Mass Storage." If not, I have a copy of the HP 82401A Quick Reference Guide that I could scan and email to you. Just let me know what kind of image files you'd need (PCX, TIFF, BMP, etc.)

The specific commands you asked about are INITIALIZE (format), COPY (save to disk and read from disk), and CAT (catalog). Each has too many options to go into here, so let me know if you need a copy of the Quick Reference Guide.

The 9114 uses the same commands as the cassette drive if you have that manual. Don't waste your time or money buying the manual for the 9114. It's completely worthless. It tells you how to plug in the charger and put a disk in about 30 pages! It has NO instructions about how to use the drive.
