HP42 Synthetic Programming?

In 1980, I got my first HP 41C. Especially synthetic programming was very interesting for me. Some years ago, I bought an HP 42S, using it only as a calculator. Are there any hidden features, too? I read something about a "fast mode", which can be enabled by software.???
